What Is CoolTone®?
CoolTone® is a high-field electromagnetic muscle-toning treatment designed to stimulate muscles beyond what is achievable through exercise alone. By triggering powerful muscle contractions, CoolTone® helps increase muscle strength, definition, and firmness in targeted areas.
How Does CoolTone® Work?
CoolTone® creates a strong electromagnetic field over the treatment area, causing involuntary muscle contractions at a level far greater than a traditional workout. These supramaximal contractions force the muscle fibers to adapt, leading to increased muscle density and improved tone over time.
Who Is a Candidate for CoolTone®?
CoolTone® is great for anyone looking to increase their muscle definition and firmness. It is commonly chosen by those looking to:
- Enhance abdominal definition
- Lift and tone the buttocks
- Strengthen core muscles
- Complement existing fitness routines
CoolTone® is not a weight loss treatment, but rather a muscle-toning solution for patients seeking improved definition.
What Are the Benefits of CoolTone®?
What Are the Benefits of CoolTone®?
CoolTone® is made by the same manufacturer that brought us CoolSculpting®. This provides a sense of trust in the technology that is behind the muscle-toning device. In addition to knowing that the CoolTone® platform has been built for results, patients also appreciate benefits like:
- Convenient thirty-minute treatment sessions.
- Fast results, greatly augmenting what the gym provides.
- Maintenance is as easy as quarterly touch-ups combined with a healthy lifestyle.
Clinical studies also indicate that by isolating and intensely treating muscle groups, CoolTone® can results in:
- Improved core and muscle strength
- Up to 1.5 cm reduction in waist circumference
- Significant increase in muscle mass
What Areas Can Be Treated with CoolTone®?
CoolTone® is FDA-cleared for muscle toning of the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. It is also commonly used off-label to improve tone in areas such as the triceps.
CoolTone® vs. CoolSculpting®
CoolTone® is often used along with CoolSculpting® but is a completely different device. Although both treatments are made by the same manufacturer, they address different aspects of body contouring. CoolTone® is designed to strengthen and define muscle, while CoolSculpting® is designed to reduce stubborn fat.
Studies indicate that approximately 25% of the body’s composition is fat. The average woman has about 35% muscle, and the average man about 40% muscle as part of their total body composition. Although we naturally maintain more muscle than fat, fat tends to accumulate over muscle tissue. When BMI is slightly higher, underlying muscle tone may be less visible. For this reason, many patients choose to combine CoolTone® with CoolSculpting®.
CoolTone® can be performed independently from CoolSculpting® or other fat-reducing treatments. The electromagnetic energy delivered during treatment passes through fat tissue to reach the targeted muscles, meaning higher BMI does not affect energy penetration. However, excess fat may impact how visible muscle definition appears.
CoolSculpting® can be an excellent partner for CoolTone®. Fat reduction treatments may be performed immediately before CoolTone® to target fat cells for natural elimination. During CoolSculpting®, fat cells are cooled to a point where they crystallize and are gradually metabolized over several weeks. Following this fat-freezing process, CoolTone® can be used to restructure and strengthen muscle fibers so that, as fat decreases, muscle tone becomes more visible.
CoolTone® vs. Emsculpt®
CoolTone® has a stronger electromagnetic field than any of the other devices on the market, such as Emsculpt®, allowing for intense muscle stimulation. Clinical observations suggest CoolTone® energy is delivered in a gentler manner, helping patients tolerate higher treatment intensities more quickly.
CoolTone® and Emsculpt® are similar FDA-cleared platforms that are both used for body contouring through involuntary muscle contractions. The manufacturer also claims that CoolTone® harnesses up to 50% more energetic power than Emsculpt®. However, studies have not proven that an increase in power leads to faster or better muscle-toning results.
An additional advantage of CoolTone® is the credibility of its manufacturer through the success of CoolSculpting®. Patients also appreciate that CoolTone® can be seamlessly combined with CoolSculpting® to achieve comprehensive fat reduction and muscle toning using trusted, complementary technologies.
Will CoolTone® Help Me Lose Weight?
CoolTone® is not intended for weight loss. Instead, it is designed to improve muscle tone and definition. While some patients may notice minor changes in body composition, CoolTone® should be viewed as a body-contouring and muscle-strengthening treatment.
How Long Is a CoolTone® Treatment Session?
Each CoolTone® session lasts approximately 30 minutes. Patients remain fully clothed during treatment and can return to normal activities immediately afterward.
How Many CoolTone® Treatments Will I Need?
Clinical studies show optimal results with a series of four treatments performed twice weekly for two weeks. Many patients choose to undergo 6–8 sessions per treatment area for enhanced results. Muscle tightness is often noticeable as early as one week after the first session, with continued improvement over time.
Can CoolTone® Help Diastasis Recti?
Yes, clinical studies have shown that women with diastasis recti experienced up to an 11% improvement in abdominal muscle separation after completing four CoolTone® treatment sessions.
Is CoolTone® Painful?
CoolTone® causes strong muscle contractions, but most patients describe the sensation as intense rather than painful. Treatment intensity can be adjusted to maintain comfort while still achieving effective muscle stimulation.
What Is Recovery Like After CoolTone®?
There is no downtime after CoolTone® treatment. Mild muscle soreness may occur for one to two days following a session, similar to what is experienced after a strenuous workout.
