Why Have Just Microneedling or Radiofrequency Treatments?

The aesthetic world is awash with non-invasive skin tightening treatments. There are various options for delivering radiofrequency energy through the epidermis into the dermis to initiate new production of collagen.

And there is microneedling, which creates hundreds of microscopic punctures through the epidermis down into the dermis to trigger the same improvements in collagen production and skin texture.

At Dr. Beaty’s, we go beyond those singular treatments to combine the two — radiofrequency energy and microneedling — into a single procedure. And we offer two different treatments that both deliver this combination: Profound and Pixel8. Your skin never had it so good!

In January we addressed these treatments individually with the subtle differences between them. In this first blog of February, let’s get into just why combining RF energy and microneedling is so good for your skin.

Why your skin wants RF energy AND microneedling

At Dr. Beaty’s, it’s not as if we wanted to be redundant by having two treatments that combine RF energy with microneedling, but there are differences, as we discussed last month. Before we move on, let’s just get back into why the combination is so good for your skin.

First, it combines microneedling with RF energy. Both treatments work to improve the skin when done individually. Put them together and it’s doubly helpful. Second, because the RF energy is delivered through the needles directly into the dermis, there isn’t any warming or harm to the epidermis. This can be a problem with other individual RF procedures. Those procedures deliver the RF energy from outside the epidermis. That then risks damaging the outer skin if the RF energy level is too high. That means the level of RF energy can’t be as high as it is with both Profound and Pixel8 at Beaty, as both deliver their RF energy directly into the dermis by way of the penetration of the microneedling needles. More energy delivered into the dermis means more collagen production.

The microneedling with both Profound and Pixel8 employ very thin needles. They create very small punctures that begin healing immediately. The penetration depth can be varied between 0.5 and 3.5 mm. Different levels of the dermis can be treated in different passes, and it accommodates varying skin and dermis depths in different areas. The needles are insulated, and the RF energy is emitted from the end of each needle. This delivers the RF energy directly into the dermis, so this eliminates much of the discomfort that can occur with singular RF treatments. Generally, the further RF energy has to travel through tissue, the more pain is involved.

OK, now you’re an expert at combining microneedling with the delivery of radiofrequency energy. So, is it time for your Profound or Pixel8 treatment with our team at Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery? Call us at (770) 753-0053 to schedule your appointment.
